A fashion show (like all shows) is like an iceberg, you typically only see about 10% of the whole thing. Only industry insiders know that scotch tape, no-slips, and a runways map are “must haves” when comprising the NYFW show shopping list.
We went backstage at a number of NYFW shows this year including Misha Collections, Banana Republic, MSBHV, Kim Shui and are sharing a little deeper information into what’s really going on backstage:
- Killer Glam Squad:
(kind of a given) But really the squad is huge! From the lead make-up artist directing the beauty direction to hair stylists and the whole beauty team getting the models ready for the show, it takes a village.
2. Quick Changes!
There’s a whole crew of dressers backstage getting models in and of their looks in a matter of seconds! They can’t be late to the catwalk once the show starts. Each look is photograpahed and hung together with the look so everyone gets in the right look, can you imagine if someone else got into Jourdan’s show closing number? The horror!!
Choreography is key, esspeically at the bigger shows where the ruway is a little longer…
4. Fashion First Aid:
Static guard is alive and well backstage at NYFW. Everything from petals to scotch tape, no slips or nip-slips happening at this show! BRB, going to buy eveything on this table.
