Jack Savoretti
LP: What is the main inspiration behind your new album Singing to Strangers?

Savoretti: I was listening to a lot of Mediterranean music from the 60’s and 70’s… Music from Italy, France and beyond and what struck me was they were combining the old ways with the new and I wanted to re-create that. Artists still had songs arranged with full orchestras but they were getting these rock for lack of a better word musicians in the rhythm section and that was the blueprint of the album.

How would you describe your style as an artist to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Spaghetti Western. Influence by Italian music from the 60s influenced by California/ West coast music. Dirty Romantic in it’s story telling. Hopefully music that makes you feel something.

3. What is your favorite part about touring in Europe? I love touring Europe, I try to explore every city we get to. Having my roots from so many European countries it means I am learning something about myself wherever I go. However where-ever I am in the world you can’t beat the feeling of Going Home, hence the song.

Describe your ideal day off?

Silence. My daily job is singing and talking to people so any opportunity I have to be quiet feels like a good day… Although it doesn’t come very natural to me.

How much does your Italian heritage influence you and your music?

On this album very much. In the past I haven’t referenced it much but this album was entirely brought on by my Italian roots.

What is the one thing you want your listeners take away with them when listening to “Singing to Strangers”?

Romance, I want to remind people what it means to feel something. Having numbed myself most of my life I have learned to feel again.
