MET GALA 2017: Beauty Breakdowns

Lily Collin’s show stopping lashing, Lupita’s rainbow eye game, and Taylor’s smokey crimson look. We have the beauty breakdown, straight from the celebrity MUA’s themselves, so you can try these looks hot off the Met Gala carpet.

LILY COLLINS x FIONA STILES
“Gregory Russell gave Lily a super chic blunt bob with mini bangs which instantly made me think of the ultimate silent screen star, Louise Brooks. Sultry lashes and deeply defined lips beautifully contrast with the softness of her Giambattista Valli dress,” says celebrity makeup artist Fiona Stiles.

LILY COLLINS HOW TO:

FACE:
For her skin, I prepped with the Lancôme Genifique Youth Activating Second Skin Mask letting the goodness soak in while her hair was started

Then, I used the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation in 140 Ivoire with a touch of the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer in 090 Ivoire where needed, and set the skin with Lancôme Translucence Mattifying Silky Pressed Powder in Ivoire 100

I used a little of the Lancôme Blush Subtil in Shimmer Rose Cashmere on the cheeks for a fresh softness on the face to balance out the dark lips

BROWS/EYES:
For her brows, I filled them in just a touch with the Fiona Stiles Beauty Micro-Precision Brow Pencil in Neutral Brown and set them with Lancôme Sourcils Styler

I wanted to keep the look modern so I just focused on overdone lashes and deep, dark film noir lips.

I piled on the Lancôme Cils Booster XL as a base coat for the lashes and then did 6 coats of the Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Black on top and bottom for bigger than life lashes.

LIPS:
For the lips, I mixed the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Berry Noir with the Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl Eyeliner in Black Ebony for a customized lip.

TAYLOR HILL x PATRICK TA
“The Met is by far my favorite red carpet of the season because it’s a chance where everyone is not afraid to take a risk and you get to see the most extravagant couture gowns that you don’t normally see on a regular red carpet. When Taylor showed me a picture of her dress I knew what I wanted to do and she knew what she wanted to do so it wasn’t difficult to come to an agreement! The gown is a gorgeous Carolina Herrera burgundy gown so we wanted to do a sexy sultry burgundy smokey eye to compliment the gown!” says celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta.

TAYLOR HILL HOW TO:

FACE:
Apply Lancôme Le Duo Stick in Buff to the hallows of the cheek bones and the halo of the forehead to warm up the skin and to lightly contour. I like applying the contour before the highlight because it allows the skin to look a little more natural.

Then apply Lancôme Click & Glow Liquid Highlighter in shade Lumières D’or Rose to cancel out any darkness under the eyes and to give it a pink baby doll effect.

Add the limited edition Lancôme La Rôse Blush Poudrer to the high points of the cheek bones for a glow. This shade is perfect for Taylor because she is nice and tan.

Then add a mixture of Lancôme Blush Subtil Palette the in the colors Petal Pushing and Rose Flush mixed to the apples of your cheeks blending into your contour for a healthy flush with fluffy blush brush. We wanted to find a blush color would make the makeup look extra bronze but still pretty and pink to tie into the eye.

EYES:
I wanted the eyes to look bold so we went for a smokey burgundy eye to complement the dress. I first used Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in 397 Berry Noir to prime the lids with this color as a base to really intensify the color and complement the dress.

I used Lancôme Petit Trésor Eyeshadow in Hotel Particulier in the crease. This color is a luminous finish so in person your eyelids can look almost wet.

Then apply the Lancôme Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Rose Tempete using the second to darkest shade onto the eyelids to really open the eyes. Use the darkest shade from the 5 Color Palette for the outer crease and lash line to bring a little depth to the look.

In the inner water line, shade with Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner in the shades Noir Intense and Bronze Riche to the outer waterline and smudge the bronze to bring drama to the eyes, yet still tie in the dress a little bit.

Curl your lashes and coat twice with Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara to ensure your lashes will stay in place all night long.

BROWS:
To create a thicker brow, apply an eyebrow pencil that is one shade lighter than your natural brows. Here I used Lancôme Sourcils Tint in Brun. I love this pencil because it is thin and you draw hair like strokes and fill in any gaps in the brow.

Then apply Lancôme Sourcils Styler Brow Gel in Transparent to ensure your brows look perfect throughout the night.

LIPS:
To complete the look, apply a lip liner, Lancôme Le Lipstique in Ideal and Lancôme Matte Shaker in 272 Energy Peach for the perfect nude and mix 270 Beige Vintage to bring out the pink to match the blush.

LUPITA NYONG’O x NICK BAROSE
With Lupita wearing a Prada gown in a bold peach color with florals details for the Met Gala, I wanted to play on the dress’ embellishments without making the makeup too delicate or lady-like. There’s a certain roughness and spontaneity to the bold color strokes, so I created smudges on the eyes using many different colors while keeping the rest of the face polished to balance out the look,” says celebrity makeup artist, Nick Barose.

LUPITA HOW TO:

FACE
To get a fresh, spring glow, I prepped Lupita’s face with Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate and Lancôme Advanced Génifique Eye Light Pearlon her eyes.

After it absorbed, I applied Lancôme La Base Pro Pore Eraserto her t-zone to keep her glow looking polished and glowing, but not too shiny.

I applied Lancôme Miracle Cushion Foundation in 555 Suede Cand Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer in 510 Suede Cas a base, and then set the look with Lancôme Translucence Mattifying Silky Pressed Powder in 550.

I added Cushion Blush Subtil in Cerise Givreeon apples of cheeks and Lancôme Click & Glow Liquid Highlighter in Lumières Rosèes on top of cheekbones and the bridge of nose to enhance her glow.

EYES
Prep lids with eye makeup primer Lancôme Aquatique in 01 Beige Ivory. Since I really wanted the bold eyeshadow to pop and the colors to look true, prepping the lids with a lighter color primer instead of the darker one, created the perfect canvas underneath to truly showcase the colors.

On the eyes, I smudged a variety of shades and textures to create a dramatic look in touches of bold fuchsia, purple, blue, peach & yellow. With my finger, I smudged on Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencils in Cuivre, Or Billiant, Brique, Cote D’Azure, & Ampoulélike cream eyeshadow.

I then enhanced different areas with color eyeshadow, usingLancôme Color Design Eye Shadows in Miss Sweetheart D, Sapphire Lace, A Touch of Coral, All That Shimmers &Exhibition.

To darken and define the brows against the colors on the eyes, brush the brows with Lancôme Sourcils Styler Brow Gel in Transparent to keep them nice and groomed. Fill in the brows to make them fuller and longer with Lancôme Les Sourcils Definis in 06 Noir.

To complete the look, add one coat of Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara.

LIPS
To compliment the eye without competing, I added a touch of soft peach using Lancôme Matte Shaker Liquid Lipstick in 270 Beige Vintage.
