We Talk Brazilian Bikinis with Lybethras’s Designer Lucianna Martinez

Pop quiz time! What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Brazil? Ok other than the Olympics (which kick off today ). Correct answer….bikinis of course! Our favorite export from Brazil (after VS models of course) bikinis are what summers are all about. The latest brand to pop up on our fashion radar, Lybethras, is taking the swimwear market by storm. A regular feature of Sports Illustrated magazine for 7 years running, this sultry brand has been spotted on many a bronzed beauties of the swim world, including Brazil’s top model Julia Pereira who, as it happens, has even designed an exclusive collection for them.
We caught up with the talented designer of Lybethras, Lucianna Martinez, and talked inspirations, trends and much more.

Tell us about the inspiration behind your SS17 collection.

Ibiza was my muse for the SS17 collection. The exotic beaches, fun loving atmosphere and beautiful women inspired me to create a collection that would reflect the carefree lifestyle synonymous with Ibiza.

What’s your favorite part of Miami Swim Week?

My favorite part would have to be when my show is over. There’s so much build up before the show, but once it’s over I can finally sit back, relax, and enjoy all of the hard work I put into my collection.

What’s in your beach bag?

Sunscreen, sunglasses and a Lybethras cover up.

What kind of a woman do you have in mind when you design?

I design with all different body types in mind. I want to make all women look their best at the beach, not just models. I want the Lybethras woman to get feel confident and get noticed in her colorful bikini.

What sets Lybethras apart from other swim brands in the market?

Exclusivity. We don’t mass produce. Everything is made to order.

What is the standout swimwear trend to watch out for  in 2017?

Handmade crochet and tassels

Bikini or one piece?

I love bikinis for laying out and getting a tan and one pieces to transition as actual streetwear for post-beach fun!
