Oliver Cabell: Hold On To The Good

Oliver Cabell, a brand who’s slogan is “Hold on to the Good”,  hopes to redefine the fashion industry. Haven’t heard of them? Maybe not yet, but this is most definitely a brand all guys will want to keep an eye on.

A little background: The 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse in Bangladesh, killing 1,130 people, led Scott Gabrielson, Founder of Oliver Cabell, to realize the hardships that the fashion industry was facing. As a result he took it upon himself to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Oxford to focus on the evolution of the fashion industry. Where he once was a business developer for a non-profit, he was now honing in on quality and transparency in fashion.

The relatively new fashion start-up is focused on creating high-end products using quality materials and responsible manufacturing processes while being completely transparent with the consumers, unlike most other luxury fashion brands out there.

“More than three quarters of designer goods purchases come from a handful of companies. This allows these brands to mark-up its products 10-20 times what they cost to make. Bags and leather goods are the most demanded, and in turn hold the highest mark-ups,” Gabrielson says. “When you buy fashion goods you often buy a brand. The problem is that these companies keep the brand but change the way they make things, and it has never been in the interest of consumers. If you’re buying from high-end brands at expensive prices, you automatically assume that it’s of high quality. It’s usually not. And that’s crazy.”

With this in mind, Gabrielson and his team decided to shake things up. Instead of keeping things on the hush-hush, Oliver Cabell is a brand that prides itself on making it well-known that they work directly with trusted Italian factories, design all bags in-house, and only sell online; all of which lends to cutting unnecessary costs like brokers and middlemen.

So what’s that really mean, though?  Beautiful Italian leather bags for a fraction of the cost.
